Only had their specialties on tap, with one guest beer. I had a "Dark IPA", as it was called. Interesting beer, dark, almost opaque black with a good hop aroma and flavor, and appeared to be pulled on a beer engine. The wife had a mild, which was not bad. Wild Rice burger was very good. They working on installing some new brewing equipment, so the lack of beers on tap is not a normal situation there.

This place was Awesome. I was in St. Paul for a week, drank and ate twice and came for a drink a third time. Beer was great and the food was awesome. Cool atmosphere except that St. Paul is pretty slow during the week. Made for some really fast service though. Will definitely return in April when I'm back.

We had a 5:45 reservation, we ordered our food and beer right away, but were not served until 6:30. When we asked why the people who came in after us were served first, they said our order took alittle more time to prepare, NOT TRUE!! All we ordered was fish and chips dinner. The later couple had a bigger order than we had, served 3 people, and alot more food. The host who seated us was very rude. When we got to him to tell our name, he said he didn't us on the list, So I showed him our name on the list. He said OH, there you are, and tried to make us wait. We spotted an empty table and showed him and he finally seated us. What do we think? The host is rude and so are the waiters. Will we come back? NO! This was our 2nd. time there. The 1st. was with my husbands, out of state, cousin. We also had to wait & wait & wait, just to be seated ,pretty bad huh, for an out of town guest.

Had the Martin's Bitter and St. Peter Pale Ale with dinner. Always happy to see cask conditioned. We were at an off hour so not too busy. We had plenty of staff to meet our needs.

Nice spread in downtown St. Paul. Clean, well-kempt, urbane but unpretentious. Very nice outdoor seating area overlooking a pedestrian mall for excellent people-watching. Beer ranged from OK to phenomenal. The best was the top-notch Imperial IPA -- intensely bitter but with strong malt support for good balance, comparable to Dogfish Head 90-Minute; and the cask-conditioned bitter, which was a dead-ringer for an English hand-pull (compare to, say, Conniston Blue Bird on hand-pull). Other decent offerings were the witbier (a bit of a sour finish, could use more coriander, otherwise OK), the IPA (spares the drinker the now-routine cascade kick, though there is a hint of cascade in there), the cask-conditioned porter (roasty, chocolatey, slightly sweet but a bit short on body), and the nut-brown (dry-roast, nutty, light hop, slightly watery but mostly on target). The only "off" beer was the pale ale, with any malt flavor completely overwhelmed by an odd hop combination that just didn't mesh well.
The menu was decidedly upscale for a brewpub, though there were some standard pubgrup offerings for those who prefer to keep it simple. The food was adequate but nothing spectacular. Though we had a "primary" server, it didn't seem to matter to the waitstaff if we were their customer or not -- they took care of us anyway. Any time any server walked past us, they checked in on us and took any requests back to "our" server who shortly returned with whatever we asked for. Can't beat that. If I lived in the area I'd probably be here on a fairly regular basis. Worth a visit if you're nearby.

When ever I visit St. Paul, Great Waters is one of my first stops, and for great reasons, the beer is fantastic. The Imperial IPA alone is worth the drive. They always have a couple of cask conditioned ales, overall, fantastic.
